At Natural Bridge State Resort Park, near Slade, the forest’s fall color is past peak.  and several recent rainy and windy days have caused a many of the leaves to drop.  Some shades of red can still be seen on sourwood, red maple, black gum, and scarlet oak. White oaks, southern black haw and sumacs continue to provide shades of red in the valleys surrounding Natural Bridge.  Although the deciduous plants’ leaves have mostly fallen, the abundant evergreen species at the park, such as the eastern hemlock, white pine, great rhododendron and mountain laurel still [...]

The colors this autumn have been spectacular at Cumberland Falls State Resort Park in Corbin.    2009 has been a banner year. The park is a little past peak, but there is still a lot to enjoy.  The hickories are a deep golden color, some brilliant red color in maples, dogwoods, and black gums.   This Saturday attend the Howling at the Moon event–costumed stargazers are invited to attend an evening of astronomy.   Meet at 8 p.m. at the visitor center located near the falls.
