Barren River Lake State Resort Park is only showing about a 2% color change so far. Shining sumac is starting to dot the green backdrop with vibrant fiery red and dogwoods are also just beginning to show a cast of red among there foliage. A few tulip poplars are hinting to a future array of yellow color. The peak color change is expected to be around the third weekend of October,
Come anytime during the month of October to view the Fall colors along with the “Trail of Scarecrows” (viewing the scarecrows is free of charge). Stop by the lodge’s Driftwood Restaurant to vote for your favorite scarecrow anytime or choose to visit during one of our delicious special food nights. October 1st will be BBQ and a Jam Session and October 19th will be an Octoberfest German buffet. If your looking for a little spookier Fall experience, make plans to camp in our campground for a “Spookout Weekend” of Halloween activities. But wait there’s more! If you are looking for a whole weekend of outdoor experiences during the Fall season, then maybe our Geocaching Weekend is the event for you. Spend Saturday and Sunday hiking around the park as you use your GPS to find special event caches hidden just for you.
