As you can see there is still plenty of green foliage for this time of year. Usually we are seeing more color in mid October given all the right conditions . Although we are patiently waiting for the beautiful fall colors, they keeps us hanging on. We are at about 20 percent peak color this week. We still have a heavy blanket of green covering the hills.
From the overlook above the lodge you can see that the hills are still very green. The reds, yellows, oranges, purples are just teasing us with a dab of color here and there.
The maples, tulip poplars, hickories, walnuts, beeches, sassafrases, and dogwoods are adding more color each week, but they are just very sporadic and really vary in depth of color.
As I was taking photos of various spots on the park I just couldn’t resist getting this one. The color may be making us wait but the squirrels are scampering everywhere. There are definitely plenty of them this year.
While the weather is still so mild take time to enjoy the wealth of beauty in the Kentucky State Parks.
